The History of Jones Advisors

In 1955 fire destroyed a grocery business in downtown Garner. Without adequate insurance to rebuild his business, C. Purvis Jones considered other enterprises. Having just experienced first-hand the importance of good insurance, Mr. Jones decided to open an insurance agency. In an upstairs office in downtown Garner, the first policy was hand typed on behalf of The Continental Insurance Company.

Purvis’ son, Jerry E. Jones, joined the family business in 1974 and purchased the agency in 1976. Keeping the focus on customer service and community involvement helped the agency grow through the years. The number of employees has increased from four, but the family atmosphere remains.

Over the past 60 years of serving families and businesses in our community, we have learned a lot. One of the most important lessons is the value of partnership. Whether it is working with a client, an insurance company, or for a community project, we do better together.

By 2008, we were seeing dramatic changes in our industry and in the regulatory environment for business in general. It was clear that businesses and families would need increasingly sophisticated solutions. We partnered with a group of agencies like ours in order to bring greater buying power and world-class resources to our clients.

Our partnership with Keystone allows us to provide creative solutions that are usually not available to local agencies: i.e., safety and wellness programs, self-funded options, captive insurers, advanced technology, Human Resource expertise and more.

Keystone Insurers Group has grown to include over 300 agencies and is consistently ranked in the top two such organizations in the country. We are proud to include Keystone in our logo and as part of our identity. Unlike many local agencies who “sold out” to the big firms, we remain 100% locally owned and operated. In fact, we along with the other agency partners are the majority owners of Keystone.

Our customers get the responsiveness and responsibility of a truly local business and the strength of a national organization.
